    Proven business leader and DePaul alumnus James T. Ryan was elected chair of DePaul's Board of Trustees. He succeeds William E. Bennett, who will continue to serve on the board. Ryan is chairman of industrial supply company Grainger and has served on DePaul's board since 2007. As vice chair, Ryan led the recent search for the university's next president.

    DePaul University's new School of Music building will be named for its outgoing president, the Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., who served in the role for 13 years. The Holtschneider Performance Center is slated to open in spring of 2018 on the Lincoln Park Campus. The board also announced that DePaul's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will receive funding to establish the Holtschneider Endowed Chair in Vincentian Studies.

    DePaul athletics reached the pinnacle of its BIG EAST Conference success with back-to-back triumphs last Saturday that culminated its greatest season. The Blue Demon softball team won the BIG EAST tournament with an 8-3 victory over St. John’s, and seven minutes later, the DePaul men’s track team was officially crowned BIG EAST track and field champion at Villanova Stadium.

    DePaul will strengthen its support for students in marginalized groups with the creation of new centers dedicated to serving African-American, Latinx and LGBTQ populations and the addition of a formalized point of contact for undocumented students. The Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., president, announced the changes on Thursday following more than a year of comprehensive research by the President's Diversity Council and the collection of feedback and perspectives from the university community.
