DePaul College Prep offers tuition discount to university employees
Beginning in the 2017-18 academic year, children of DePaul University employees may be eligible for a tuition discount at DePaul College Prep. The tuition program is the latest development in the university's nearly three-year-old academic partnership with the high school located in Chicago's North Center neighborhood.
"DePaul College Prep's Board of Directors and administration are very pleased to extend this benefit to the children of full-time employees of DePaul University," says Mary A. Dempsey, president of DePaul College Prep. "The university has embraced our academic partnership since its inception, and we are grateful for the many academically rich opportunities that have been extended to our faculty and students thanks to this association. We know that this benefit will make a challenging, Catholic education at DePaul College Prep more accessible to the wonderful families of DePaul University who represent Vincentian values in their work and in their lives."
To be eligible for the discount, you must be a full-time staff or faculty member with at least one full year of service, with a child who is considered a dependent according to IRS tax regulations. The tuition discount granted may be up to $2,000 per child per year, and will be based on financial need. Additionally, the discount can be combined with other financial aid and merit-based scholarships offered by DePaul Prep.
The application process this year for DePaul Prep is from Jan. 14 - March 17 for new and returning students. Financial aid applications and documents must be completed by March 17, 2017 to be considered. First priority for financial aid consideration for incoming freshmen is given to students who test at DePaul Prep. The tuition discount will go into effect on July 1, 2017 for the 2017-18 academic year. For more information, visit the DePaul Prep financial aid website.
"Offering this benefit to DePaul employees is a wonderful outcome of our academic partnership with DePaul College Prep," says the Rev. Dennis H. Holtschneider, C.M., president of DePaul University. "I'm most grateful to the DePaul Prep board and administration for this extraordinary kindness to our employees."
DePaul Prep works with the university to deliver a strong, Catholic and college-prep education to students from across the city and surrounding suburbs. Although 2014-15 was the first academic year the school shared the name DePaul, collaboration on its programs began in 2012.
Beyond the traditional curricula, DePaul Prep has adopted aspects of the university into its large-scale plan, such as creating an Office of Mission and Values which mirrors that of the university's. DePaul Prep also holds annual retreats for its students on the university's Lincoln Park Campus which serve to deepen the connection with Vincentian service and values. DePaul Prep's International Baccalaureate students conduct research in the Richardson Library under the guidance of library staff and the College of Computing and Digital Media consulted on the design of DePaul Prep's innovative steamlab, which combines STEM and the arts in a collaborative learning environment.
Various departments across the university also share their expertise with the collaboration. The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences provides an opportunity for students from DePaul Prep to partake in dual enrollment summer courses in Lincoln Park. The College of Education provides professional development and resource programs for DePaul Prep's staff and faculty. The School of Music lends support to enhance DePaul Prep's music and choral programs, and The Theatre School provides students with behind-the-scenes tours, tech rehearsal visits, and free tickets to university concerts and performances. The university's Athletics department regularly welcomes DePaul Prep's student athletes to competitions on campus, and the high school holds its graduation ceremony in the Sullivan Center on the Lincoln Park Campus.
