Instead of mandating that cursive writing be taught in Illinois schools, education professor Marie Donovan tells WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" that such curriculum decisions should be made at the local level. "When you legislate curriculum ... it shifts the conversation from, 'Well, what do we value as a school, as a district, a community?' to 'How do we deal with (and I have to add, yet another) unfunded mandate out of Springfield?'" she says.

A bystander is someone who sees a situation but may or may not know what to do, may think others will act, or may be afraid to intervene. The Vinny Vow: Bystander Intervention Workshop teaches potential bystanders safe and positive ways they can act to prevent or intervene when there is a risk for sexual and relationship violence. You will be equipped with the awareness, skills, and ability to challenge social norms that perpetuate sexual violence. Learn to make observations and recognize warning behaviors that may require intervention, including ways to intervene safely and effectively
