Communication, Law to host event on social media, privacy and advertising
The College of Communication and the College of Law will host "Communication Issues Today and Tomorrow: Social Media, Privacy, Truth in Advertising and More" on Monday, Nov. 13. The event features discussion from three renowned attorneys who will examine the intersections of social media, privacy and truth in today's advertising industry. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.
Ron Urbach, the chairman of Davis & Gilbert. For many years he has earned a reputation as a celebrated advertising and communication attorney, representing most of the advertising agency holding companies and their operations. He and his firm touch hundreds of millions of dollars in advertising campaigns annually.
Rick Kurnit, name partner of Frankfurt Kurnit. He is recognized as one of the industry's leading media attorneys, particularly due to his work on landmark Right of Publicity and intellectual property cases. He represents both multinational advertisers and agencies and is a leading attorney negotiating executive employment contracts for media and advertising executives.
Doug Wood, head of Reed Smith's global Entertainment & Media Group. He represents multinational companies around the world. Doug has a global reputation as a branding and marketing legal expert, as well as having represented the industry in all SAG/ASCAP union negotiations for many years. As general counsel of the Association of National Advertisers, he literally represents all advertisers and brands in the USA, and recently has been at the forefront on the issues surrounding transparency.
Carla Michelotti, a strategic consultant and member of DePaul's Board of Trustees, will moderate the discussion. Michelotti has been honored for her career, most notably her work on self-regulation and defending freedom of commercial speech. She also is a member of the Advertising Hall of Fame.
