DePaul alumnus wins MacArthur Genius Award

DePaul alumnus Rami Nashashibi is the recipient of a 2017 MacArthur Foundation Genius Award. The organization recognized Nashashibi, who founded the nonprofit Inner-City Muslim Action Network, for his work and advocacy in the Chicago Lawn community on Chicago's SouthSide.

Inner-City Muslim Action Network fosters health, wellness and healing in the city by promoting social change, cultivating the arts and operating a holistic health center. The nonprofit aims to serve as the model of the Muslim tradition of facilitating transformational change in urban communities.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation strives to support creative people, effective institutions and influential networks building a more just and peaceful world. The MacArthur Genius Grant, also known the MacArthur Fellows Program, comes with a stipend of $625,000 paid out over five years to encourage recipients to pursue their creative, intellectual and professional goals.
