The DePaul community is invited to take part in the inaugural Take Your Child to Work Day on Thursday, May 4. In addition to being a day full of fun activities, the event intends to promote work-life balance and community development.

"Engaging our children in the exploration of the workplace improves morale, inquisitiveness, resilience and encourages confidence," says Nancy Hashimoto, director of advising in the College of Education and founding president of DePaul Parent Connection. "The program aims to inspire and empower young children to think and dream about opportunities as they get exposure to careers and professions. We hope the day illustrates the value of education and helps them discover possibilities to reach their goals."

All families are invited to kick off the day with breakfast, followed by morning activities. Families can then either return to their workplace with their child, visit the resource room or take part in scheduled campus tours. Families with children ages 8-14 are invited to RSVP for structured activities from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (limited to 25 families). Lunch and a snack will be provided for this afternoon session. Registration closes March 31.

The morning session, limited to 400 participants and available for all ages, includes:

  • Light breakfast
  • Group sharing activity
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Lincoln Park Campus tours throughout the day
  • Resource room available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The afternoon session, limited to 25 families and available for children ages 8 - 14, includes:

  • Lunch and snack
  • Opportunities to explore and engage
  • Structured activities available in conference format
  • Lincoln Park Campus tours throughout the day

For the full day's schedule, please visit the event's website.

For this inaugural year, participation is limited to children of employees, not extended family. Parents must supervise and accompany the child at all times while on campus. No university-sponsored childcare will be provided. Registration is required and participants may need to sign a release form. If you have multiple children participating, the family will need to attend sessions together. Please do not bring your child for the day if the child is ill.
