Shailja Sharma receives 2018-19 Fulbright award
Shailja Sharma, a professor of international studies and director of DePaul's Refugee and Forced Migration Studies program, has received a 2018-19 J. William Fulbright Scholarship.
Beginning in fall 2018, Sharma will use the grant to conduct research at the Center for Study of Developing Societies in New Delhi, India. She will examine various privately held archives that contain oral histories of communal riots in India in the last 70 years to better understand communal violence, memory and the nation-state.
The Fulbright Program aims to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Since the program began in 1946, more than 380,000 scholars have participated in the Fulbright Program, coming from and going to more than 160 countries.
