Rock band Chicago to celebrate DePaul's Opening of Wintrust Arena
The band Chicago will set the stage at Wintrust Arena as DePaul welcomes back alumni Lee Loughnane, James Pankow and Walter Parazaider for a special concert on Nov. 9 - one week ahead of the opening weekend of Blue Demon basketball. Ticket sales from the concert will benefit DePaul's School of Music and the Athletics Department.
Since the band got its start on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus in the late 1960s, Chicago has become known as one of the world's most popular bands with over 100 million records sold. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. In celebration of their 50th anniversary, the band's first album "Chicago Transit Authority" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014. Twenty-five of Chicago's 36 albums have been certified platinum with a total of 47 gold and platinum awards.
Tickets prices range from $35 to $125. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors can purchase tickets beginning Monday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. The DePaul Athletics ticket office will send an email with the pre-sale promotion code to the DePaul community in the coming week.
"We're always excited to play in Chicago," says Loughnane. "Especially when we can help our alma mater open their new sports facility."
Chicago is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums is six consecutive decades and the group came in ninth - the highest charting American band - in Billboard Magazine's recent Hot 200 All-Time Top Artists.
Tickets will only be available for purchase online at www.depaulbluedemons.com with a pre-sale promotion code during the designated sale time frame or by calling the DePaul ticket office at (773) 325-7526.
